There's been a lot of genderbending cosplay lately, and while that makes me happy, I'm even happier to see someone making the costume design work as is instead of transposing it into the key of sexy.

...even her Anthy occasionally can't resist striking a pose. (Although she also plays Anthy more traditionally).

Go. Browse her gallery. The Auron gallery is fantastic, and there's an Utena for her Anthy as well. (Also, she's got an older Laguna cosplay).

... it suddenly occurs to me that the PS3/Vita remaster of FFX means we'll finally see those Auron / Braska / Jecht flashback scenes with realistic-looking models. (Well, sort of. It's still not going to be FFXIII level graphics, but at least it'll be like the high-poly models in the original game.)

Which means that godawful scream that young!Auron gives during his CROWNING MOMENT OF STUPID / AWESOME will have visuals to accompany it.

That's gonna... hurt to see.

I'm still curious if they'll get anyone to re-record their lines. Probably not, but I keep hoping they'll give Hedy Buress a chance to fix her dreadful Shatnering, since that was an artifact of trying to lip synch.

....And in my continuing pursuit of all things voice acting, I have made a few more discoveries. Many of them you already know, of course.

I mostly do this to find the jaw-dropping juxtapositions and cute RL tie-ins like Kytes being the son of Elma and Luzzu (and Baralai and Gippal being brothers; no wonder I had so much trouble telling their voices apart in the under-Bevelle confrontation scene.)

My newest discoveries are Rosso the Crimson = Hope's Mom; Brother = Al-Cid Margrace. ([personal profile] owlmoose, did you know that?!!)

... Sissy PMed me with this fanart of Auron. I blame Spira Claus.

Random web browsing occasionally takes me to Japanese fanart sites.

Not at all my usual pattern of thought, but I like this Auron / Jecht piece.

Reminds me a little of nidrig's painting style.

Also this one of the Farplane (Warning, some very NSFW fanart elsewhere on that site, but that particular artist's work is safe. I am keenly disappointed to find that this is not, in fact, Auron, Braska and Jecht going clubbing.)

Crime-fighting dead duo:

Picture much larger than the actual 2-inch figs.

Somewhat ironically, my old "Aerith and Auron" ficbit named Going Somewhere never went anywhere.

I have this odd bit of head canon that they went off to be quirky ghosts, badgering people, rubbernecking on the silliness of humanity, and occasionally intervening on a lark, especially when it might spoil the neatly-crafted chess games of gods bent on directing Destiny.

Aerith would be the instigator, and Auron would stump along being amused (or bemused) backup. I liked the fact that it would make a good "partners" story without sexual dynamics, which is painfully rare in fanfic (including mine). But I never could come up with a plot, beyond the vague sense that it would bridge the Al Bhed and Midgar Shinras.

And in other news, I don't know what came over me, but I have acquired dustcatchers, including the two pictured above. I've been so sparing about not collecting Things -- save for one grumpy guardian watching over my hard drive -- since I cleared out my apartment about eight years ago.

But I like these silly little things. I guess I've mellowed. At one time I would not have had the sense of humor to see my favorite video game mythological characters turned into chibis.

I've got everybody except Rikku, Balthier and Fran (wah).

I was never a skilled artist, but 15-20 years ago, I used to have amateur skills. They've atrophied through neglect.

For old fans, a couple tearjerkers. Also, Jecht. Major spoiler warnings on both, of course.

This one reminds me why I got hooked on Auron. Some of the juxtapositions of different clips in this one are heart-wrenching (love the clip of Auron confronting the dragon, confronting himself):

The second one isn't as good, but I like the idea of pyreflies as burning, and the ending makes me smile.

Auron in a nutshell: he gained the ability to laugh at life only after he was dead.
auronlu: (Default)

Oh, Mugs, you are too good to me, catering to my cheesy voice acting fix. FFX's voice acting is terribly choppy, yet I look past the bad to find the good.

Exhibit A: Interview with Matt McKenzie, Auron's VA, who seems to be absolutely as stodgy and serious as his alter ego:

Auron Speaks!

-- note: this websites a bit draggy; it may take a couple tries to load.

Favorite excerpts:

McKenzie: "My agent called and said, 'Have you played some character named Auron? Disney wants you to do that character in some new game…' I said, 'Auron’s DEAD!' She said, 'You’re booked. Go make some money.'”

Mckenzie: "Take an occasional break from gaming for romance. It’s important! Have fun!"
(Compare to Auron's quote: "Make mistakes. That's what youth is for, after all. Do not waste it.")

___

Exhibit B: Paula Tiso, VA for Lulu (and Col. Nabaat in XIII, not well-utilized):

Lulu Speaks!

Tiso: "Leon [Kennedy of MGS Resident Evil] and Lulu would make a nice couple too- don’t you think? If there were ever a zombie attack I think my chances would be pretty good."

-----

Exhibit C: Interview with Alexander Smith, localization / translation for X, X-2, XII
After reading his discussion of why he translated "Arigatou" with 'I love you," I am a little more reconciled. Translation is SO HARD when you're trying to capture emotion/storytelling, not only literal meaning.

And I worship what he did with FFXII. The iambic pentameter for the Occuria rocked so hard. (Yes, I've gushed over the mannered translation for XII before.)

Sometimes, when I've just given up approximately 6 hours of my life in 2 days to listening to Mom rant about Dad, and I've sat down to get some work done finally and the power goes out, and I sit down 2 hours later when the power comes back, I need a little catharsis.

I never get tired of that trick. (Also fun with sand wyrms.)

Of course, it's even more fun when you hit this rare bug (which doesn't include the soundtrack, alas):

Okay, back to work.

I try not to post many of my Squidoo pages, because there's nothing more frustrating than having a formerly interesting LJ turn into Plugzilla.

Nevertheless, I think a few of you might be interested in my Auron: A Fan's Ultimate Guide page. I poked about in translations of the Ultimania Guides to supplement the game script and pull in a few more details on Mr. GrouchyPants.

This follows my Lulu and Anima geeking pages, which i did first.

Not bad. I've got to get the drawing tablet out and use this for a ref.

Woo hoo! Another fanart? A first-time reader was inspired to illustrate a scene from Chapter 19, when Rikku and Wakka's daughter latches onto the grumpy guardian.

I love Yunie's Al Bhed clothes; they look a lot more likely than what I drew.

The best part? This reader said she'd avoided fanfiction until now, and was pleasantly surprised. I pointed her to a few good authors to ensure her first foray into fanfiction continues to go well.
