They had seen Sin rise and fall. She had seen three Summoners from start to finish of their very different journeys. She still heard the pulse of the sea, the crash and shudder every time the breakers struck the rocks at the corners of the bay. She felt the dry, sere, searching thirst of the high wisps of cloud overhead, seeking sisters enough to gather and grow and fall in glorious rain. When she stepped out from under the crinkling awning, she felt the sun's teeth burning her white skin, demanding respect.
The world was so wide, and had contracted so much since the Calm came. The seas were safe now. She would take Vidina on his first voyage as soon as he was talking.
The boy sucked on her braids and gurgled. She smiled, kissed his forehead, and began to sing another song, one of those old lesson-chants the priests had taught her to control her temper and steady her mind for her first spells. Those were his lullabies. One tiny hand clutched the paw of one of her battered old moogles, shorn of its button eyes lest Vidina try to eat one. The moogle's blind face saddened her, although she'd stopped using that simple aid years ago.

Date: 2011-10-15 05:25 pm (UTC)I can't seem to manage one or two sentences...
Date: 2011-10-16 07:33 am (UTC)For once, Yuna was almost shaking with anger. “Why did you get so close? You could’ve been killed!”
Lulu sat up stiffly, mustering a trace of her own fire and spitting back at her, “And you would have been, had Kimahri not been here!”
She blanched. “But—”
“Don’t you remember? That’s how I lost Lady Ginnem! A dead summoner can’t defeat Sin, and nobody will remember her except the guardians who failed her!”
Kimahri erupted in a low rumbling growl.
Yuna, looking a little stunned herself, crumpled and dropped her eyes. “I know, but you... I mean... I’m sorry, Lulu. I didn’t think. You were testing me, weren’t you?”
