Final Fantasy Dimensions: A Half-Assed Playthrough

I have unfinished FFVII and FFX Let's Plays, I haven't gotten to Lightning Returns, I was wasting time playing Kingdom Hearts for the first time, and I've fallen hopelessly behind in Final Fantasy fan discussions and game commentary on moogle_university . My FFX novella is languishing with the last five chapters in a messy and forgotten state.

What a PERFECT time to start a new game playthrough! 



Zencribnotes on Tumblr inspired me to try Final Fantasy Dimensions again. It's an iPad/Android native Final Fantasy game that came out in 2010.  When I last tackled it, I couldn't fully appreciate how much it was a homage to the early FFs. Now, by golly, I'm going to play Final Fantasy Nostalgia Bingo, because that's the main virtue of this game.

I was pretty surprised when playing it how far it goes into the classic final fantasy tropes of the old games, especially now that I have greater context after playing the likes of II and V and VI. So doing that LP on my tumblr felt like a good way to get people interested in it, especially when other people's LPs are now into kinda more on the obscure end of the canon.

Makes me kinda wish that the Crystal Chronicles series get ported onto current gen consoles and handhelds.

i know absolutely nothing about CC. It's just staggering how many "Final" spinoffs there are.

I'm not sure I would go along with 'the first taste is free' style of game. I am far more likely to get the game, pay up-front and then let it languish in the pile of all the others whilst I go replay something [like FFX, FF7, KotOR] ...

... yeah, there's something wrong with me ^_^

I tried getting into FFD quite a few times, but I cannot seem to get myself into it. I'm not a huge fan of the characters, and the main character was far too cheesy, even for a FF game. I hope you enjoy it though! And good luck finishing the rest of your LPs. :)

Hee hee. That made me wonder what IS Latin for "waffles" but I don't suppose the Romans had them, so there probably isn't a near translation.

I hope the plot and characters improve; so far neither seems all that interesting. The characters all seem pretty generic and I'm getting kind of bored with the "light vs dark crystals" story, Final Fantasy. (I say as I play Pokemon, a series which has not changed in any significant way since its inception, so I am a hypocrite. But then I don't play Pokemon games for their memorable story, characters, or worldbuilding, and I DO play Final Fantasy games for all those things.)

I was curious about this game though, so thanks for playing it so we can see what it's like!
