Happy secular candy-distributing holiday!
Oct. 31st, 2011 08:20 pmI love secular Halloween, despite recent over-commercialism. Little kids showing up on my doorstep are cute. Giving them candy is fun.
I don't grow pumpkins anymore, but on the other hand, I don't have to fight Mom over which ones get made into pie.
Here's this year's offering. Yes, another cat pumpkin.

Quote for year from neighbor's kid (I'm wearing a black chiton with my black medieval cloak from college with the hood up:
"You look like Darth Vader, only girly."
WIN!

Date: 2011-11-02 07:59 am (UTC)When I have time to do more than one pumpkin, I'll often turn a smallish pumpkin (about the size of a small teapot) into a cat head. I don't usually give it a cheshire cat grin; it's more of a normal kitty cat face with whiskers. Easy to do: cut slanted cat eyes with triangle-shaped pupils, make a triangle-shaped nose, little W shape for the mouth, and slits for whiskers. I used to carve the ears as triangle-holes as well.
Hm. Should make a stencil. It's amazing how popular pumpkin stencils are on the web. I've never used one, but it seems to be how kids carve pumpkins now.
