I usually leave mine with the default names, now that I write fanfic, but I used to rename them, usually in Latin. I can't remember anything except that I called both Brothers "Minotauri."
My mother named all her aeons random fantasy names like "Varrell" and "Baruka," but dad named them as follows (in all caps):
Valefor: BIG BIRD
Ifrit: HOT PANTS
Ixion: SPARKY
Shiva: MADONNA
... and I left Utah before he got to Bevelle, so I don't know what he's named Bahamut.
Mom did, however, named Tidus Ali Öops.

Date: 2008-01-20 10:34 am (UTC)I remember watching my sweetie demonstrate the very first Playstation game I ever saw, Breath of Fire III. There's a touching scene at the beginning where the protagonist's mother appears in a dream and calls him tenderly by name.
So then we restarted and I got the controller. It just wasn't quite as touching when the dialog was, "Spoo... oh, my dear Spoo..." (This was the Game of Countless Ellipses).
I was so fond of the characters by halfway through that game that I've never again saddled a protagonist with a silly name. For that matter, I felt I had to change "Squall" to something less pouty-sounding. :)
Wish I could remember what I called Diablos. It was something elegant.
