From what I recall of Spira's history, Bevelle marched an army armed with machina weapons against Zandarkand, which is why the population went Fayth in the first place & initially empowered Yu Yevon to fight them as Sin. Bevelle was defeated - Yu Yevon did not stop & that's why Yunalesca was forced to defeat him with Zaon.
She dies/becomes what she is [until defeated at last] & Yu Yevon made Zaon his new armor-of-Sin.
So my thought was that a Summoner, like Belgemine, who was Unsent and went fiend rather than being helpful, would be the sort of fiend to seek to make a new Sin. And if 'twere a Summoner, they might find a hidden Fayth.
After all - it makes sense to explore all of Spira and find them in the game, but if Yuna was feeling as driven as portrayed, it is unlikely she & her Guardians would've -really- gone wandering all over Spira.
Revisiting all the temples to get those extra scenes, filling the monster arena, getting all the Ultimate weapons, getting hidden Fayth, finding the secret places in the airship, playing in the Omega Ruins are all things a dutiful Summoner would avoid. ^_^
