Why one needs a parachute in even-numbered Final Fantasy games.

Ha, I never noticed that. Reminds me of the rule about odd numbered Star Trek films I remember hearing thrown around back in high school.

(A meta thought: would casting Float before the jump down protect someone from a fall down a cliff?)

Meta response: hey, maybe PCs get an auto-float cast on them when they fall from a great height? That would explain much.

Case1: Cloud falls from an exploding bridge, tumbles from the height of the "plate" down to Aeris' church in the Sector 6 slums below. Flowers break his fall, and he doesn't lose a single hit point?

Case2: NPC-Wedge falls from a staircase leading up to the plate -- he wasn't even at the top -- lands on the ground, and is dead. (Since he was at least a named NPC, he was permitted to stammer out a few lines before expiring. An unnamed NPC would die on impact.)
