I'm not sure I agree with all of them, but I must reconsider my own Tolkienesque habit of starting with description.

Yeah, nothing is one-size-fits-all when it comes to writing, and the most interesting stuff tends to fly in the face of all rules & conventions. I myself am a total prose fetishist so piling on the description rarely offends me. :P But it was such a genuine piece, and I think most of us can find it helpful in some way.
