Final Fantasy V
Sep. 18th, 2011 04:32 pmSo, keeping with my tradition of being the last person on the planet to play good games, I picked up Final Fantasy Anthology for $10. Of couse, FFVI is the good game of the two on that two-game set.
However, I'm playing FFV first, since this is just something to do while pedalling on an exercise bike. Perfect for that.
Why doesn't Captain Faris have a fan following? I guess the rest of the game is so short on characterization and plot that it's mostly for game mechanics fans, but this character needs more love.
I think Faris was reborn as Lightning Farron. A pity the fake pirate accent disappeared.
Also, Galuf is clearly Captain Basch after getting bashed on the head with a rock.
I'm only partway through the game -- I need to head off to Crescent Island to collect my next plot coupon -- but it's a fun diversion.
I'll play VI when I'm finished so I can finally enjoy the game which so many of my Old School Gamer friends seem to recommend.
Faris is great.

Additionally, you're not going to miss a stirring cinematic moment or line of dialog, since it sits there waiting for you to press X.

Gaming + exercise bike is such an excellent idea! I'm going to try it too.
FFV is the only game from 3-13 that I own but have never felt compelled to play. I guess I should sweep off the dust from it and from my exercise bike.

Date: 2011-09-19 03:03 am (UTC)I actually tried to play FFX with a Dance Dance Revolution pad, but the lack of trigger keys meant I couldn't swap party members . The Chocobo game with the stupid birds flying at you in the Calm Lands is much, much more aerobic when you're hopping back and forth trying to duck. "Left. Left! No RIGHT!"
It was too difficult to control most games with the pad. Hence the bike. I also have got streaming Netflix now, so I will watch an episode of classic Trek or (just for the insanity) a Buster Crabbe Flash Gordon, one episode of which is exactly the right length for a daily workout.
Oddly, I've never gotten interested in a Wii Fit... I want to play my games, I just want to find a way to distract myself from noticing I'm exercising.

I recently set up my exercise bike but I haven't created a daily habitual routine out of it. I queued up classic trek on my Netflix instra-stream purely for that reason but now I'm thinking that classic FF games are the way to go on days I'm not killing myself doing intervals.
I spent HOURS making Miis that look like various final fantasy characters so when I play with my Wii Fit, random FF Miis join in.

Date: 2011-09-19 03:07 am (UTC)Actually, your recent post on the whole YA thing saved me from an embarrassing blindness... I was falling into a Love Triangle trap without considering "Wait, what's this either/or BS?" Inexcusable in my case.
