Minor observation on FFXII

auronluReading Ellnyx's A Sense of Commitment, I finally realized something about Reddas which had until now escaped me. Probably all of you had already thought of this, but...
... here's a fair man, a judge magister, who is attempting to atone for the fact that he dropped a nethecite bomb on Nabudis, completely wiping out a city's population with an unthinkable weapon of mass destruction.
His atonement is an honorable, kamikaze sacrifice to destroy the source of said WMD, so no other cities can be so destroyed.
Considering the way Japanese science fiction and fantasy have tried again and again to assimilate Hiroshima and Nagasaki (Akira, Sin in Final Fantasy X, Nausicaa, etc), I can't believe I didn't make the connection sooner. Ellnyx's description was the clue phone ringing off the hook for my befuddled brain.

Mythology and fiction often provide people with the catharsis, answers and closure that real life is seldom courteous enough to provide. Even (or especially) when they don't consciously realize they want these things, or that a story has attempted to provide them.
