Two totally Random Final Fantasy Geeking Observations.

1) While searching for the Yevon glyph to use as an art reference, I happened across this cosplay of Baralai.

2) MERDA SACRA. One-Winged Angel's lyrics are quotes from the CARMINA BURANA:

   Estuans interius, ira vehementi       "Burning inside, violent wrath"     1st couplet of C.B. 11.
   Sors immanis, et inanis                "tremendous/terrible and empty fate"
                                                         Couplet from O Fortunata, most well-known chunk of C.B.
   Veni, veni, venias;                    "come, come, may you come / do not let me die"

Why the HECK did I never notice this before?

Although in Advent Children I kinda picked up on "veni veni" something or other, but the lyrics in AC are new, original Latin.

I slept through two years of high school Latin, so I'm like, totally an expert. Shoulda came to me sooner and I could have told you this a loooong time ago...

Heh. I really do have a purpose for this comment. There's a flick called Bubba Ho-tep. Watch it if you haven't seen it. Pay attention to the hieroglyphic-thingamjigs in the restroom stall. This post reminded me of that scene, if only because the only time I EVER paid attention in Latin was when my poor, poor teacher told us about Roman profanity and lewd comments scrawled on ancient walls.

"Veni veni venias" I recognized immediately, the very first time I ever heard One-Winged Angel. But I didn't catch the other ones, possibly because the lines are more buried in the texture, both of the song and of the Carmina.

I think I may have noticed the "Veni veni venias" during my one and only playthrough, but didn't think to look it up afterwards. I should have recognized the line, of course, but I've got a brain like a sieve.

It's like the Latin in FFVIII. That fithos vinosec whatsit sounds like fake Latin, but at some point I realized the name of the song was Liberi fatali or something. Did I ever get around to looking it up? Nooooo, until just now.

I need to do a search of all the Latin in the FF games. It's lovely easy Latin that even a lapsed classics major can read.

An Awkward Silence descended.

After trying to figure out what stupidity I had committed this time, I finally realized what I had written. I announced that, in this case, it might be best to translate the phrase as "I am about to arrive."

I do vaguely remember that the original lyrics were from "Carmina Burana", but I'd never bothered to go look it up.
