By Mary Sue, I mean not only that I'm sympathizing with Elma, but letting her be the "hero" in places.
It wasn't entirely clear in the scene where Shuyin was trying to take over a new host, but when Elma attacked the guard, she wasn't yet under his influence -- the guard was. She prevented him from shooting Isaaru. Unfortunately, that drew Shuyin's primary attention to her, until Cid walked in.
Words can't begin to express how delighted I am to see your comments. I know exactly what you mean about being daunted by chapters. Multi-fic stories are hard to keep up with even when one is active in a fandom, and I have a share of good multi-fics on my reading list that I've never gotten around to. So I'm being a pest. I can't help wanting to tug on people's sleeves, after investing a lot of effort in the tale, but I apologize for the pestering.
