Silly non-correspondences in LHAD

Apart from the Lulu-as-Scary-Galadriel conceit, I generally keep my old and deep-seated LOTR fandom separate from my FF fanwork.

However, this particular stretch of the story is batting around a few Tolkienian motifs like a catnip mouse.

So I can't resist batting around a few analogies, even though they don't always map with very close matches.

Lucil - Elrond
Auron - Gandalf
Isaaru - Frodo
Pacce - Pippin
Nooj - Aragorn
Baralai - Boromir
Paine - Glorfindel
Shelinda - Galdor of the Havens
Cid - Gimli
Rikku - Legolas
Elma - Sam

I flipflopped Nooj and Baralai back and forth for a while: each has certain elements of both characters. (But Isaaru is really, in my mind, Tolkien!Faramir.)

Ack. Does this make Lulu Gollum?!

The chapter is nearly all dialog right now. Alas, I didn't get as far as I'd hoped this weekend.

So, Auron's Gandalf? It fits, you know. Both died and came back more powerful than before.

Actually, Lulu occupies a rather ambiguous position right now. Due to her being Sin, she's Sauron, sad to say. Or, Yevon is Sauron, but she's stuck with him anyway. But, also, and this is really ironic, she really *IS* Galadriel too... :O

If anyone was Gollum, it might've been Shuyin... Maybe...

On an unrelated note, you've made me dust off my PS2, and play FFX again. Thank you...

Hmm...Lulu as Gollum? Gollum had his wee boat, didn't he? And Lulu definitely has that whole 'carrying Arthur to Avalon in her boat because she's an old soul of the apple isle' vibe, so yeah, except for the creepy cave-blindness-big-eyes thing that Gollum had, I can SO see that, even though it is a perfect 'Ack!' moment.

And now I have this image of Lulu on her knees, clutching a hairpin to her chest, giggling and muttering, "Tricksy summoners. Yes, Precious, tricksy indeed."

I don't think I've laughed so hard in weeks.

Or maybe Erestor, come to think of it. The trouble is, we know almost nothing about Erestor. Fanon has really fleshed out that character.

Then again, Glorfindel's too golden for Paine. She's herself. This is the problem with analogies.

A lot of them I matched not so much for their personality as for their dramatic function in the story.
