AUGH. I played X-2 through twice and never got this. Somebody just posted a youtube video showing a hidden Auron scene in X-2. You have to wait for Yuna and Rin to have a 6-minute conversation before getting to the sphere, but it's got a textbook Auron line. :)

SPOILERS, of course:

Edit: Brain freeze. I now expect Auron/Gippal smut from those better qualified to write such things. (Except you're all busy with XII.)

I've never gotten that sphere either, although I knew it existed. It's not just sitting through the six minute conversation, you have to do a lot of really specific things in earlier chapters to set it up and getting it to work is a serious pain in the tuchus.

It's available for download on the site with all the Crimson Squad video. That's where I've seen it. I forget the URL now, but it's the homepage for the [livejournal.com profile] vg_footage community.

It's a fun scene, although Auron's voice always sounds a little off to me. Like Matt McKenzie had a cold or something.

From what I recall of Kingdom Hearts clips, Matt McKenzie's Auron didn't sound the same in that game either. I have a suspicion that he was affecting a certain mannerism while doing the original FFX recording, and he forgot some of the tricks he'd used to give Auron his distinctive gruffness when he was called back a few years later to do a reprise of the character.

I'm thinking of Michael Dorn's Worf -- the "nice house, good tea" voice he used when playing Worf was very different from his ordinary speaking voice.

I think the KH2 Auron was closer, but I see what you mean. I've heard Matt McKenzie's voice in a few other places, notably in a West Wing episode where he plays some politician giving a speech on TV, and it's clearly the same guy but there is a very different quality to it. (I didn't really recognize the voice until they cut away from the visual and we just heard the speech going on in the background.) Not as much changed as Michael Dorn but definitely different.
