What's so frustrating is that I can see images perfectly in my mind, but I can't make them appear on the page.

Oh well. The following is VERY rough illustration of the chapter I'm writing right now. Just about worksafe, but snuggly.

Hah! Nonsense, I'd say that's one hell of a drawing. Lulu's figure reminds me a bit of a Yoshitaka Amano drawing.

Is that watercolor?

Aw, thank you! But I can see it as a really polished piece of graphic art in my head, and I have no way to get those clean lines and surfaces onto the page. Bah.

When I post the next chapter, I'll include a link to this, since it's an illustration of the first paragraph. :)

It's simulated watercolor and ink. Painter Classic lets you imitate various traditional materials with a drawing tablet. The undo key is the only reason I have a snowball's chance in hell of getting a faint likeness.

Now, obviously, I need to google for Yoshitaka Amano, because I'm an ignoramus.

How cool. I had a very crappy tablet once, and didn't get much use out of it, as the surface area was maybe 3 inches by 3 inches.

Yoshitaka Amano is great, and even Final Fantasy relevant. He designs all the logos and does/did some character design.

He also illustrated the Sandman Dream Hunters graphic novel, my copy of which I managed to be signed/doodled in by both Gaiman and Amano, and yet is sitting quite neglected in my very exposed living room bookshelf. I shouldn't be allowed to have nice books, ever.
