"This Is My Story"

We all have our secrets.
Mine?
Mild-mannered academic by day, moderator of a delightful "family-friendly" fandom community where the children may play without being troubled by sex and adult issues and netstalkers going bump in the night, I find no outlet for one of my many and varied interests:
Adult fanfiction.
That will not be ALL this journal is about, but I decided it was time to set up a little nook where I could just talk, without offending my friends who don't share my interests, or scaring the kiddlybeans who don't need to know that their teacher/role model may take a break to write a lurid sex scene for the joy of it.
First things first.
My current obsession: Auron and the peculiarly-named Lulu from the Final Fantasy universe. I liked them. Their characters had strengths, flaws, depths, complexities, angsts and quirks that interested me. They're both very hot. Hence my new time-wasting project: Helluin's Auron / Lulu FFX Shrine. [ETA: Moved 9/09 - The Auron/Lulu Shrine] It contains links to good fanart I've found, photomanips I've made playing with them, and links to the general-audience and adult fanfic I've written about them so far.
NOTE. I post my explicit stories on ficwad.com, for one reason: parental controls.
You MUST register an account there to view anything rated NC-17. That means parents who have installed parental controls on their kids' computer should have a chance to say, "er, what's this ficwad place?" and block it, or just not let their kids register.
I'm sure there are many foolish parents who do not monitor their childrens' net habits or install parental controls. That is not my problem. You, parents, need to educate yourselves. I am all for keeping children innocent until they become teens, and then it's YOUR job not mine to decide how fast to teach them about the facts of life. Nowadays those facts include nasty pedophiles prowling the web, posing as teenagers in order to prey on kids. Protect your children from those horrible people and teach them not to give out their names, photos, locations, on the web. Feel free to protect your kids from my writing, if you don't approve.
I believe erotica is a fun and basic expression of the human spirit and should not be censored... but also not shoved in the faces of those who don't want it, or kids who aren't ready for it.
Public entries in this LJ will stay in PG-13 mode and sometimes slip into non-explicit comments that could bump it up to R.
*kicks soapbox aside and cracks knuckles*
ETA: Okay, now LJ actually has an "adult" flag one can put on individual entries. I'm going back through and flagging accordingly.
So then.
Who thinks Lulu is the hottest thing since Princess Leia in that silly bikini in return of the Jedi?

Date: 2006-03-06 04:08 pm (UTC)I understand the name issue too... I've had TrekQueen for... *counts in head* something like eight or nine years now so I'm everywhere. Searches on it will be about 99% me (damn that one little doppleganger!!). Now that I have a job which will require me to get security clearance and such I've been a bit concerned about what might be dragged up and such. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
The other thing, like you, I moderate on a forum that is supposed to be minor-friendly since we allow ages 13 and up to join but it is mostly comprised of adults, which we have to monitor constantly to make sure anything they post is not too explicit since they tend to forget the kids. It's a political board and represents some of my core beliefs but again there's the "stamp" I may receive for simply being there. Some of those people would not approve of the stories I write because of their leanings yet they are the same as mine sometimes. I know there's different flavors of all political types since we accept any of them there as long as there's no disruption. I'm all for discussion and debate and am open to hear an opposite's POV but still hold friendships despite some of our differences. Some people can't seem to get that though and its quite frustrating.
Ok now I'm off rambling again. Bad TQ. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone! :)

Date: 2006-03-06 06:53 pm (UTC)I wanted to, because I wanted to understand WHY religious people think I'm damned to hell. He did not judge or attack me-- he thought I was mistaken, but he respected me as a person for coming to different conclusions. And the feeling was mutual. I learned a lot with those discussions.
Unfortunately it doesn't usually work out that well. I've moderated a politics/religion/hot topics forum, and it was exhausting. My hat's off to you for the job.

Date: 2006-03-06 08:03 pm (UTC)Yea definitely good on the debate with respect, I like those sorts of people who are up for the debate but also won't let it get too personal then get over emotional. O.o We got a lot of that during the Terri Schiavo spiel. I think sometime this week I might do a journal/blog thing about the Libertarian movement in California because right now we've got some of the conversatives and libertarians on our forum just getting into pissing matches about everything. We've got some of the really hardcore conservatives getting mad over the libertarians with the lack of "patriotic-ness" in supporting the troops and whatever. I think its more of a government than anything else but Californians realize it a bit more because neither side of the political spectrum is really getting anything done right now. :p But I digress...
Anyway, I have lots of friends of varying degrees and I hate it when people get so bent out of shape when they realize that you may be on the opposite side as they are. Character of the person is the most important thing and friendship comes first, but if someone wants to put beliefs and certain things first in how they choose friends then that's a bummer. I think things that people share in common is the best.
Though I do have a question for you, I notice a few members like to bring out the political rant and discussion at the AFF forum. I don't like mixing my two hobbies very much so I neglect/decline to involve myself on those threads. However, it seems like some people thrive on knowing that information from the peers they write with. I guess its like how you don't want to really share the Auronlu story with some of your friends because they aren't into that. Am I just insane or possibly noticing something about some of the members? I dunno, I can understand the discussions about the censorship of certain materials but it all seems rather one sided and then develops into a free-for-all bash fest at one point.
