It really is a theme that runs through the whole story, especially as you learn more about Yevon and other summoners - how Braska's wife and outcast past are erased so that he can be a hero of Yevon, how Seymour's mother is forgotten in order to allow him back among the Guado, and of course how Yunalesca and Yu Yevon himself are completely rewritten into something to grow a religion around. And if Yuna weren't there, weren't able to advocate for herself, they'd certainly do the same to her. She spends the entire game and more negotiating with people who, even when they love her, have their own ideas of how her story should go.
