Final Fantasy traditionally repeats the important stuff, regardless of the game or translation.Video Game Recaps (VGR) is scathing about how many times certain things are mentioned again and again to drive a point home. They're absolutely brutal about Tidus saying "huh?" every few minutes as a rhetorical device to get characters to keep talking. I was joking about it, but more gently, as I understand the need for the characters to be Captain Obvious in case we missed or forgot something,
FFVII uses repetion as well to make sure the player gets the central themes and/or has memory refreshed from time to time. Bugenhagen's Lifestream lesson largely repeats what we've already heard from Barret and Aeris.
Also, I think It's possible to miss the optional dialog at Cosmo Canyon, when Elder Bugeh reveals that Gast said Jenova wasn't an Ancient, after all. As this is a crucial point, it bears repeating. And the odd flying-Sephiroth scene si the first time we hear that she was (or will be) a "calamity of the skies."
