Oh gosh. I wasn't enough of a completist to get the limit breaks up last time around. I'll certainly do that this time -- sorry Vincent! -- since Dirge has made me a shameless Vincent groupie.
I really couldn't tell whether those black-cloaked figures were Cloud's hallucinations, ghosts (I originally thought they were the ghosts of the dead villagers) or failed lab experiments, but you're right, they move in a horribly creepy fashion. UGH. I've had nightmare figures of things like that in my dreams since I was very small, so this whole scene hit me a lot harder than most.
I don't remember the reason for the fake villagers either. I think they were hired, but it seemed awfully elaborate -- why would Shinra bother, and for that matter, why rebuild an exact replica of the village at great expense? I hope it's explained somewhere, because it seems awfully contrived. Is it just insurance to make sure that "Escapee B" isn't believed by anyone, if he ever regains his sanity? Of course, there are enough mysteries in Shinra Manor that I can see why there'd be a cover up of some kind.
