Yes, I realize it's mostly a narrative device, but Tifa's restraint in not saying a thing during this whole nightmarish flashback -- apart from the awkward bits in her house -- astounds me, in retrospect. Cloud's not the only one who went through hell that day, and she's rather more together than he is. (Of course, she didn't have the aftermath he did, but still.)
I'm trying to grasp what you mean about Cloud using empathy "in order to go against a villain's actions." You mean Cloud's "what about my sadness?" speech, trying to get through to Sephiroth by pointing out that he's not the only one with manpain? Or...? Sorry, it's late, and my brain is a little fuzzy, and I'm afraid I'm missing something here.
