new and exciting ways to play right into our enemy's hands = the summary of half the FF series right there.

I loved Troia (which was then translated Toroia) as a small thing, but grown up - it's kind of like the way that Melanie Rawn and Anne Bishop have critiqued patriarchy by gender-flipping it; in earlier translations the assistant in Edward's chamber, who has a male-coded sprite, says something like "oh no I'm just the nurse, this lady here is the doctor" and the whole thing feels very "women would be just as bad ruling the world!" (which, to be fair, is NOT the point I think Bishop and Rawn are making, they're trying to point out that a system privileging one over the other is fucked up no matter which way you set it, but still.)

Kain. Oh, Kain, and your poor swiss cheese brain.

Something interesting about Rosa's captivity: in the 16-bit version, it looks more like she's bound on her back with many loops of rope to a table, which makes the guillotine thing much more threatening. This version makes it both less....dangerous looking AND more fanservice-y.
