If only readers/viewers were more interested in those other kinds of stories?
I suspect that there is a feeling of safety and familiarity in the "will they get together" stories. After all, if a story starts with two people together, does that mean the story will be about their relationship falling apart?
(answer: in half the stories I write, yes. in the other half, no, but the trials will require the reader to actually read.)
