Is there some way to add folks to one's Flist so that they can read locked journal entries, but their journals don't show up on your default "friends" page?

I keep my LJ presence a bit segregated. There's the Fandom Me, which is the active one right now, and nearly all my posts here are unlocked. But there's also the Private me that chitcats with old girlfriends and babbles very randomly and whinges a lot more about things going on in my personal life, but doesn't bore them with my Final Fantasy obsession.

There's some overlap between the two groups, but it's easier when I have my AuronLu friends page set to cover the folks I know primarily through fanfiction, so that it's mostly icons, fanfiction, and fanart; and my old LJ for friends' journals that are primarily about their personal lives, rants, activities.

Anyway, just curious.

Yes. This question (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=102) deals with most of it.

the edit groups page (http://www.livejournal.com/friends/editgroups.bml) is particularly useful on this front.

Nowadays, I hardly ever read my entire friends page.

Your local LJ expert may know better than me, but:

I don't think you can get them off your default flist but you can set up filters/custom friends groups so that you could only choose to read certain people. But other people will still be able to see that they are on your flist, if that's what you are concerned about.

I keep two journals as I find it's easier to do so, though I'm sure I could essentially do the same with one LJ, via custom filters. But then only the people you'd choose to see the entry could, not the general public.

Bah, I was afraid to ask the question, because i just knew someone would take it personally!

My two-journal system makes it easier to read final fantasy and geek, when I'm in the mood to do that, and catch up on old friends or grouse about politics, when I'm in the mood to do that. It's hard to sit down and enjoy a good piece of smut when I see that so-and-so just got into a car accident or is talking about current events, and it's distracting when I have to sift through a ton of fandom geeking to find out what my old school chums of 10-15 years are up to, so it's easier keeping those things separate.

Mostly I make sure friends of all kinds can read every entry on this journal by having it be 99% public.

But now and then I've posted locked entries here. I'd like to be able to give old friends access, while keeping friends pages organized.

no no no didnt take it personally, just wanted to make sure none of us caused you any trouble or upset you. We want our wittle [livejournal.com profile] auronlu happy! *huggles* but I understand your want to separate things out from the ever busy friends. Each morning I almost have to go back a couple pages to get to the latest entries I haven't seen yet.
