I set that up back in Chapter 5 when Lulu tells Auron what's really behind the Cult of Sin, and why sailors who have encountered her tend to worship her:
The mage shook her head, chains clanking faintly as she flicked a hand dismissively towards herself. "There's just one way I've found to keep Yu Yevon out of my mind for a while. One way...and it is a momentary diversion at most." Her lips twisted in a faint smile, self-deprecating, coolly amused. "None of them are you." -- Chapter 5, "Pearl (http://auronlu.livejournal.com/106915.html)"
Cheesy idea was inspired by (a) Jecht zoning out when he heard the Hymn of the Fayth, which is used in the game to catch him off-guard in the final showdown and (b) the TV show Babylon 5, which has a main character possessed by a mental parasite-- he can regain control of his mind for a short time by getting so drunk the "Keeper" goes to sleep.
Alas, the story has evolved so much that I really couldn't justify a gratuitous sex scene (and also, I hadn't anticipated that Yu Yevon might coopt Lulu's little game to catch Auron).
And if Vegnagun could do the job alone, it would make Auron, Isaaru and Rikku superfluous. Can't have THAT. ;)
