One thing about fandom puzzles me...

Why the heck are there so many fandom stories about fantasy world characters attending ordinary high schools? The Zanarkand High theme is practically a genre.

Oh, wait, that's because a lot of fanfic writers are probably high school students.

It's still strange. I mean, for FFVIII it makes sense, in a way, but... for things like FFX and FFVII it hurts my head.

I suppose somewhere out there on the net there's probably a BORG COLLECTIVE high school, with Seven of Nine flirting with all the boys, or perhaps a Pirates of the Carribbean High with Sparrow picking on the class nerd Billy, or...

*shakes head to clear it*

On the other hand, [livejournal.com profile] cupcakemonster wrote a gangsters Spira that I adore, even though I usually avoid that genre. So you just never know.

Other than high school AU fics, there are also a whole lot of "I got sucked into the world of Spira through my playstation" fics.

I read two sentences from those mentioned fics and I hit my back button immediately =3=

Yea there's one I came across on ffnet... I was sitting there thinking WTF is this crap???? And so many reviews of stupid people saying "yay omg that totally kicked a$$". Checked some of the profiles and they are all like 14-15yrs old. *smacks head into desk* And you're right, whenever you see a high school theme it is definitely a teenager writer because THAT'S ALL THEY KNOW!!!!!

And I agree with saharasnow... there are a lot of dropping into spira stories or ones where the people were actually from spira but ended up in our world somehow only to come back to spira but without an explanation how they ended up in our world in the first place.

btw, I have a great story for you about the people teaching our kids english in this country. :D You'll love it.

And by the way, I haven't seen a borg collective one but there is a regular crew one I'm sure. :D

Ah yes. I think I remember coming up with one of those self-insert stories back when I was way into FF6, like ten or twelve years ago.

But never in my right mind would I have posted it on the internet for all the world to see.

...Then again, if spurred on by enough stupid people doing the exact same thing as myself and getting glorified for it, I just might have. *shudders* I cringe at the thought.

Dont these people have any shame??

Oh, and the Borg thing... dont put it past people. The big fandoms among my friends when I was starting high school were Gargoyles & ST:TNG.

And did much fic and art ensue.

Oh, if I only realized what fanfic was back then. Thankfully I was only the muse XD

Yes, you have a point. I hated high school and never would've done that, but I am SO grateful that I was writing Dr. Who and Blakes 7 and Trek Mary Sues (before there was any but old Trek) in spiral notebooks by flashlight, since the family Apple II connected to the TV in the basement was not a great spot for writing. And ff.net was a couple decades away.

Else I'm sure someone would've been gouging their eyes out over my fic. :)

And it is really sad that I can realize a connection between those two shows... Worf's actor Michael Dorn played a voice on Gargoyles. >_<

OK I'll go crawl back in my geek hole now.

My bad, I also forgot Riker and Troi did some voices as well. *sigh*

Actually, most of the cast of Gargoyles was from Star Trek.

My favorite was Puck/Data. XD

yea I realized later i should have just said TNG cast = gargoyles cast. :D

XD

Someone explained this to me once...

I was told it's because a lot of the kids writing them were in high school, or junior high. That was their world, so that's what they know to write about. Of course, I don't understand why they didn't want to write in the game universe, but who am I to judge?

The reason I decided to write high school AU? To see how hard it was to do it correctly (FREAKING HARD) and to have an excuse to write Seifer as a bouncer in a male strip club. Oh. Zell and glitter. ZELL. GLITTER. That really should be the first reason I give. >D
