Yea most were sad that Tidus left at the end of FFX so I guess the developers thought it would be fine and dandy to bring him back. I didn't really have a problem with it as long as they made sense in why he came back.

Just as you say with the right author and story Auron could come back. There's always that possibility out there since I've come across some in other fic genres.
