Yeah, the Tifa-hints are subtle until now, but the "You really, really are you, right?" line is blatant-- assuming you think to talk to everyone around the fire. And as usual, there's a memorable sequence right afterwards, Nanaki's Rite of Passage, to distract the player from pondering what she meant.

I think the game did a good job of building up the hints very, very gradually. It's a lot easier to put them all together in retrospect, especially since I'm only recording the cutscenes and character interactions, not all the puzzles and combat that interrupt them. When you have hours of combat between what seem like inconsequential details, it's easy to forget them, especially if they didn't make much sense! (In fact, I think I totally bypassed Gongaga on my first playthrough, so I never saw the hint that Tifa knew Zack.)
