This game is a serious mixed bag on its women. I simultaneously applaud so many things (Rosa is an archer! Rosa and Rydia and even Porom have their own developed motivations and personalities! Rydia and Rosa bond! etc!) while facepalming all over the place (Damsels in distress all over! The ladies with personalities still mostly fall under "besotted with hero", "spunky child prodigy", or "decorous and proper child prodigy"! No ladies can have swords! Rosa's characterization is centered around Cecil!).
I have to look at it in terms of other games it was released with - other SNES games, really, since I didn't experience the NES FF games in their time - and give it credit for what it tries, but that doesn't mean it don't have some gigantic gaping flaws.

And yet I still frigging love Rosa.
